About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

FC Bayern München secured a 3-1 victory over 1. FC Köln in their Bundesliga clash on Wednesday, 14 January 2026. The result, while expected given Bayern's superior form and squad depth, was not without its challenges as Köln initially took the lead. The match began with Köln showing resilience and determination, and their efforts paid off in the 41st minute when Linton Maina (GAP -2.1%) found the back of the net, giving the home side a surprising lead. However, Bayern responded swiftly, with Serge Gnabry (GAP +3.8%) equalizing just before the halftime whistle in the 45th minute, ensuring the teams went into the break on level terms. In the second half, Bayern's quality began to shine through. Min-jae Kim (GAP +5.0%) put the visitors ahead in the 71st minute, capitalizing on a set-piece situation. The introduction of Lennart Karl, who came on as a substitute, proved decisive as he sealed the victory with a goal in the 84th minute, showcasing Bayern's depth and tactical flexibility. Bayern's lineup featured several changes, with Lennart Karl, Dayot Upamecano, Tom Bischof, and Raphael Guerreiro coming off the bench. These substitutions highlighted the away team's strategic adjustments, which ultimately paid dividends. Köln also made changes, bringing in Marius Bülter, Ísak Bergmann Jóhannesson, and Luca Waldschmidt, but they were unable to alter the course of the match. From a tactical perspective, Bayern's ability to control the game through key players like Harry Kane (GAP +11.3%) and Manuel Neuer (GAP +8.1%) was evident. Kane's influence in the attacking third and Neuer's leadership at the back were pivotal in maintaining Bayern's dominance. This victory solidifies Bayern's position at the top of the Bundesliga table, extending their lead and maintaining their momentum in the title race. For Köln, the defeat leaves them needing to regroup and focus on upcoming fixtures to climb the standings. Overall, Bayern's performance underscored their status as title contenders, while Köln will look to build on their positive moments from this match as they aim to improve their league position.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
